The Aurora Project gallery & performance space
25208 George Washington Highway, Route 50, Aurora

The Aurora Project’s Gallery and Performance building is a former general store.
For decades, this building was a community center for the Aurora community, where farming is both a livelihood and tradition. The arts also played a big role in the lives of the residents who shopped at this store and gathered around the pot-bellied stove that still dominates the gallery space!

The following history of the building is taken from the book, Aurora, W.Va. in the Twentieth Century, compiled by Alice McGinnis Penzo and Laura Lee Frye.
The Aurora Project also owns the former Brookside Inn properties about one mile east of the general store. As of 2026, the inn and cottages are leased to Jacob’s Ladder.
